Saptarshi Roy is a dancer, choreographer and a teacher. Over the last fourteen years He has houned his skills under the able tutelage of 'guru' Smt. Amita Dutta. In his Quest to excel his performance he has been blessed by the eminent exponent of kathak, Pandit Birju Maharaj and Smt. Swaswati Sen with whom he has trained over the last couple of years in several special workshops. He has also had the privilege of attending some special classes that were conducted under the able guidance of Rajendra Gangani of the Jaipur Gharana. He currently is the Principal of Konnagar(W.B.) Nataraj Kala Mandir (School of Performaning Art). He has performed in various places in India, namely, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Kanpur, Jamshedpur, Nagpur, Mumbai, Allahabad, New Delhi, Bhilwara, Baroda, Siliguri, and at the Kumbh Utsav at Ujjwain in 2004. In addition to this he has performed at the Rajgir festival and Gour Purnima festival with aplomb. His international performances have taken him to many of the romantic cities of Italy in EUROPE. His qualification include a degree in Kathak :'Nritya Prabhakar' from prayag Sangeet Samity and a degree in 'Nritya Bisharad' from Sarba Bharatiya Sangeet Samiti. Saptarshi was awarded the 'Gold Medal' at the inter College competition held at the Calcutta University in 1994-95. He also won the National Scholarship 2000 from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, government of India. He was the former assistant trainer in Kathak at the University of Burdwan. Saptarshi has enthralled many a television audience through his numerous shows on Doordarshan.   Guru Shikshya: a) Exponent in Kathak under the able guidance of his "guru" Smt. Amita Dutta for the last twelve years. b) Attended several special workshops conducted by the eminent Kathak Guru, Pandit Birju Maharaj and Smt Swaswati Sen. c) Attended a workshop conducted by Rajendra Gangani. Achievements/ Awards: a) Obtained a degree in "Nritya Bisharad" from Sarba Bharati Sangeet Samiti. b) Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti. c) Was awarded the "National Scholarship" in the year of 2000 from The Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Govt. of India. d) Was awarded the Gold Medal at the inter College Competition held at Kolkata University Institute in 1992. e) Currently Principal of Nataraj kala Mandir at Konnagar which is a dedicated school for performing arts.
